We make regular submissions to government inquiries if we feel we have something important that we can contribute on behalf of women in music. Below are our submissions concerning the:
DCMS inquiry into the Economics of Music Streaming
IPO call for evidence on Intellectual Property Enforcement
IPO consultation on the Beijing Treaty of AV Performances
IPO, DSIT and DCMS inquiry into Copyright and AI
All IP responses were primarily written by Dr Metka Potocnik.
And the links below are our four official responses submitted to the Women and Equalities Committee inquiry into Misogyny in Music.
This involved a call for evidence in July 2022 followed by a series of oral sessions in the Spring of 2023. The final report was published on 30th January 2024 and made 34 recommendations. Click here to read Vick Bain’s response to this report https://thef-listmusic.uk/misognyny-in-music/
The government published its own response in May 2024 and rejected all recommendations, or stated that they were already delivering on some of them. This is a position we contest.
The link to the whole inquiry including the final report from the WEC committee is here https://committees.parliament.uk/work/6736/misogyny-in-music/
The Oral Session on 8th February 2023 is above, where Vick Bain appeared as an expert witness alongside Vanessa Threadgold, Founder and Managing Director, Cactus City Studio; Melinda Kelly, Member of Management Team, Safe Gigs for Women; and Nadia Khan, CEO, Women in CTRL.
