Professor Sophie Daniels

Sophie Daniels is the UK’s first female Professor of Songwriting. She founded and runs the world’s largest MA in Songwriting and set up the first BA in songwriting in the UK.

She writes pop, country and folk, working between London and Nashville, and co-writes with singer-songwriters.

Her early career was in the record industry, in marketing roles at Sony UK and S Records. She is a Director of The F-List and She Writes Songs, a contributing ‘Six Musicologist’ on BBC 6 Music, and in 2023 wrote a report for the F List which fed into the UK Government’s Women and Equalities Committee Evidence for its 2024 report, Misogyny in Music: On Repeat.

Her practice-based research project Peaceful Warrior, made with Catherine Anne Davies (The Anchoress), investigates sexism in songwriting and record production.
