Tendertwin is the moniker of the Turkish musician Bilge Nur Yilmaz. Founded in Istanbul, based in Philadelphia and London, Tendertwin is in limbo between space and time. The nomadic delicacy of Tendertwin combines elements of chamber-folk and avant-pop with a singer-songwriter twist through sweeping strings and suggestive synths. Reminiscent of the style of late 2000s female troubadours, the heaving lyrics weave inventive myths of transatlantic devotion on acoustic guitar arpeggi with a subtle Mediterranean dreaminess, and promises haunting yet liberating chaos.

Currently residing in Oxford, Tendertwin is preparing to release her third single following the first two — “Absolute Nobody” and “Triangles” — was featured on more than 40 international blogs, radios, online and print media channels; streamed over 70k times; and featured in 1.4k playlists. The “Triangles” music video, directed by Max Ward, was remotely created and released March 2021, depicting a stranded alien’s struggle to arrange a journey to cure a melancholic homesickness.

“…a manifestation of this combination of Turkish roots, English adjustment, and Philly DIY”

“The subtle fog moves to a silvery boom; she oscillates in exciting ways, but never loses control.”

“Only an emigrant could have written ‘Triangles’. It is drowsy with nostalgia and regret, drawing upon fragile affect with confidence and never in excess. The song’s vocals are longing, reminiscent of Fiona Apple, Florence Welch, and Joni Mitchell, but the deft use of instrumentation and texture is closer to Sigur Rós, The Antlers, and José González among other chamber pop greats.”

Tendertwin’s latest involvement is on the track “Blind”, which was created in collaboration with the Roundhouse Music Collective based in London, premiering on YouTube on May 13th. Previous experience involves performances with Erased Tapes artists – London-based vocal ensemble Shards, and Japanese artist Hatis Noit alongside London Contemporary Orchestra at Southbank Centre; and recent release “Inside I’ll Sing” in light of the current global pandemic, as a member of the newly formed Isolation Choir featuring alt-J’s Joe Newman, Douglas Dare, Luke Howard, JFDR, and many others.
