Based in London, BERNARDO, is Sonia Bernardo an alt-soul/jazz singer, songwriter and producer who has PJ Harvey, Gal Costa, Amália Rodrigues and Talking Heads among her biggest influences. Born to Portuguese parents Bernardo started writing songs at 10 years old with full intention of becoming a Fado great. But then indie music happened.
She wrote, performed and produced her first EP “Tender” in 2016 and recorded a live psychedelic experimental session in a living room in Brixton which resulted in the witchy “Live at Sarah’s”.
In 2018, she featured on Skinny Pelembe’s EP “Sleep More, Make More Friends” on track “Live from the High as a Kite”. For her 2019 EP, “panic prayers”, Bernardo has cultivated her experiences into a fluid and sultry EP that features 3 distinctive tracks all threaded together with Bernardo’s unique voice and melodies, produced by UK psychedelia producer Dave Maclean (Django Django).
In 2020, Bernardo put out ‘All You Leave Is Love’ produced by long-time collaborator Dave Maclean (Django Django), as the lead single to the anticipated new EP that will be released March 2021.
