Mahya Mahroomi was born and raised in Iran, where pursuing a career in classical piano as a woman meant overcoming social limitations. Despite these challenges, she developed a strong foundation in Western classical music while staying deeply connected to her Persian heritage. After earning her B.A. in Piano Performance from Tehran University of Art and completing her M.A. at the University of Chichester, she established herself as a pianist whose identity is shaped by both traditions, classical discipline and Persian creativity.

Mahya’s work centres on building a dialogue between Persian musical identity and Western classical forms. Collaborating closely with contemporary Iranian composers, she has premiered and recorded works that weave Persian modes and colours into classical structures. This process is not only artistic but also cultural: by programming Persian works alongside canonical classical repertoire, she creates a meaningful narrative that highlights their shared depth and expressive power. Her dedication to this approach has already led to world premieres, composer collaborations, and themed concert series.

Mahya is an active performer in the UK and internationally, presenting both solo recitals and ensemble collaborations. Recent highlights include A Celebration of Contemporary Iranian Music at City, University of London, and East in the West: From Classical Roots to Persian Resonance at the Festival of Chichester, concerts that positioned Persian contemporary music alongside Western classical masterpieces as part of an intercultural dialogue. She has also appeared in chamber concerts with the Chichester Music Society, participated in masterclasses with renowned pianists, and won multiple competition prizes, including the Coulsdon and Purley Festival awards and the Chichester Music Society bursary. Her performances consistently aim to combine technical mastery with cultural storytelling, engaging audiences in both familiar and new sound worlds.
