Joanie Bones gathers the fragments of cultures, lands and songs into a music of soul, spirit and connection.

A talented writer of contemporary folk song who also keeps a vast compendium of songs filed in her heart,  Joanie’s compelling live performances feature a capella vocal looping, experimental percussion and a truly unique take on contemporary British folk music. Audiences describe being ‘blown away’ by her shows which feature songs and stories in equal part.

Joanie isn’t your typical folk singer:  a Londoner of Persian and Jewish heritage who has spent most of her adult life in Scotland, Joanie has a unique perspective on the British folk tradition. Having stepped away from a career in music in her early 20s due in part to the lack of diversity within the UK folk scene at the time, in the short time since deciding to return to music Joanie has been mentored by four-time winner of the Scots Singer of the Year Award Siobhan Miller and has played opening sets for much-loved songwriter and troubadour Martin Stephenson. Martin has described Joanie as ‘one of his favourite artists’, while Skippinish’s Alasdair Murray has described her singing as ‘enchanting’. Her music is compelling and important, often moving people to tears.

N.B A note about social media: As an artist who massively values ethical integrity and is actively involved in campaigning for social justice, as of January 2023 Joanie has decided to come off all social media owned by Facebook. At this point in time she thus does not have a social media presence.
