Grace Griffin

My bread-and-butter is working as a touring live sound engineer with many many years of experience and a long list of names on my CV.

I also perform, record and produce electronic music, a lot of it improvised, experimental and with a particular interest in sound design, textures and layers. I do work solo but I really enjoy colaboration with other musicians. I have also recorded, mixed and produced albums for other people, both digitally and analogue. Much of this is at grass-roots or DIY level but I find it very rewarding and a great counterpoint to the high-end live sound work environment I inhabit.

A lot of my music creation is in partnership with Andy Vonal, another Sheffield electronic musician and we perform as “Andy & Grace”. We have recently released a third album of improvised music on our bandcamp site (andyandgrace.bandcamp.com) and we are regularly appearing at EMOM (Electronic Music Open Mic) events around the UK when time and opportunity permit.

In another partnership with Sheffield musician Sophie Toes, we are gradually crafting a set of tunes under the name of “Curtain Twitcher” -watch this space is all I can say about that for now!

The third main ongoing creative partnership I have been involved with recently is with Sarah Jay Hawley, a noted vocalist, writer and educator also based here in Sheffield. We have worked together developing live performances, video content and some musical ideas over the past few years.

And finally, along with Sophie Toes and Tracy Deakin (another excellent vocalist from Sheffield) we formed a group called Surreal Appeal and created an album during the Pandemic which was titled “Gently Deranged” and released on Bandcamp (surrealappeal.bandcamp.com) with accompanying limited edition lathe-cut vinyl from Do-It-Thissen Records here in Sheffield.
